Yesterday was a normal day. Nothing extraordinary was happening.
MJ came home, we worked on our staircase remodeling project, had a shower, had dinner, put on our PJ's and were ready to watch some TV at 9:00 PM. This is our routine these days.
But just when we were about to sit and watch some TV, the phone rang.
That was not normal.
MJ ran downstairs to answer the phone. But he was late.
He came back to our bedroom, where I was almost asleep. Again the phone rang. This time MJ had the phone with him, looked at the little screen and said "it's your parents". So I answered.
My mom said "have you seen the news?". Hmmm, no.
I had no idea what she was talking about, until she said "there was a train crash in Buenos Aires" and I asked MJ to look for more information on online newspapers.
See, MJ is from Argentina, and although his parents are living in Spain, the rest of his family lives in Buenos Aires, and they go to work by train, every day.
My mom was really worried. She kept saying that it was a tragedy.
When I saw this, I froze.
50 dead, 676 injured.
My mom wanted to know if MJ's family was okay. We had no idea. As soon as we could, we started checking out the list of injured to see if any cousin, aunt or relative was there.
Nope.
So we decided to call MJ's aunt to see if she had any news.
The good news is that all of them are just fine. They weren't in that area.
Hearing that made us feel relieved.
Everyone was okay.
But on the other hand... 50 people died. More than 600 were seriously injured. This was a tragedy. How could I feel relieved?
I couldn't. I was shocked. I was sad. In pain.
All I could do was to pray for those families who have lost a loved one.
I prayed and prayed.
Yesterday was a normal day. Until 9:00 PM.
Then the lives of many people changed.
Please, pray for those more than 600 injured and all the families who have lost someone in this tragic train crash.
